This was a commission I did for a work colleague. Liz originally asked for two candlesticks, one 4 foot tall and the other 3 foot, and I originally made these two as test pieces at half that size to see what I could come up with. Liz said they were perfect (she'd forgotten that she'd asked for larger pieces) so I never made the full-size version!!
The candlesticks are both made from 6 pieces - the foot and candle "plate", plus the three small bun feet are made from the same hardwood - but can't remember what - with the stem part made from some form of pine - it smelt lovely as I hand-cut the barley twists. These were my second attempt at a barley twist - my other having been put on a small goblet with a stem diameter of about 1/4 inch. The stems on these candlesticks are around 1 1/2 inches in diameter, so I had to size up my tools, and found some great files by Microplane which did the job pretty well.
